Benson Henderson vs Frankie Edgar
Edgar (14-2-1) is just 30 years old, but he has logged more time in the octagon than just about anyone else since 2007. Nine of his 12 UFC fights have gone the distance, including four five-rounders.
He’s always been an exciting fighter, but I’m wondering if this might be the fight where we start to see how much of a toll all those epic standup wars took on his body.
Edgar’s first fight with Henderson (15-2) was competitive.
I scored it two rounds for Edgar and three for Henderson, but the judges gave the latter a unanimous decision victory. Edgar swears he won the fight, while Henderson saw it differently. “I think I was winning until that up-kick,” Edgar said in a Yahoo! Sports UFC 150 preview video, as he reflected on Henderson’s game-changing strike when the men battled it out in February.
My gut tells me this one won’t be as evenly-matched as the first time these men met, as Henderson comes into his prime fighting years at age 28.
